God's Pardon Program

"I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me."

(Jeremiah 33:8)

"And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."

(Acts 16:30-31)

What is a pardon?

The term pardon means "the action of forgiving or being forgiven for an error or offense or a remission of the legal consequences of an offense or conviction" (Oxford University Press). Persons who have been convicted of a particular crime or illegal activity may request a pardon from a particular State’s governor or from the President of the United States.

God's Pardon Program

Long before mankind offered a pardon program, God had established "the" pardon program. God revealed that He is ready, willing and able to provide us His pardon by proclaiming in Jeremiah 33:8; "I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me." God announced the availability of His pardon program based upon declarations and invitations He provided in His Holy Word. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 God declared; "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." God extended an open invitation to everyone to participate in His pardon program by stating in Isaiah 1:18; "Come now, and let us reason together, Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool."

God’s Pardon is Predicated on a Person’s Sincerity

It is important to understand that God does not pardon a person based upon external things such as their bank accounts, possessions, position, physical attributes, networking connections, social status or stock portfolio. God pardons a person based upon their sincerity which is an internal attribute. For 1 Samuel 16:7 states; "the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

God is faithful in His commitment to pardon a person of their sins and the punishment rendered for being a sinner, when that person offers a sincere confession unto him. This applies to the to person who never accepted Christ as their savior and to the person who may have drifted away from the path of Christ. For 1 John 1:9 proclaims; "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
